mid atlantic air musuem wwii airplanes
*The distinguished older gentleman in pic 9 is Bill Guarnere of Band of Brothers Fame, much respect for our veterans.

**all pics were taken by me with my Nikon D5100 with a 55-300 Nikon VR Nikkor zoom. Still learning how to use my camera.

thanks bro. I shot over 400 pics during the afternoon. Have tons more. The sound of the radial engines is hard to describe. My boys and I had the time of our lives today.

Good work! Nice pictures! It is an experience to see these flying machines and to imagine them in combat and bravery of those who flew, rode in and maintained them.

Excellent job CM! Looks like you're doing just fine with that camera. You cant go wrong with the Nikon DSLR's.

Thank you, almost could not take a bad pic that day, they flew the planes low and close! Some of the pics were taken at distance then blown up and centered digitally. There were people there using 400-1000mm lenses! My 300 looked....well, small....*looks down ashamed*

it's not the size of the lens, it's how you use it... very nice pics CM. i dig these older planes, and the guys that flew them. they were of a different breed back then...

So you got bombed too! 1st pic I think is a B-24 which a) my grandfather helped design and build the engine for at Detroit Diesel Allison, and b) later flew in during WWII. These birds were very sturdy, he was in 3 crash landings and sustained only a broken nose.

most of the planes flying that day had been in some form of an accident. Amazing that these men are dedicated enough to restore these beauty's! I agree, built like tanks and highest regards to your grandfather!

Thank you, he passed away in 1986 while I was in the ARMY. I appreciate the thoughts though. The planes are awesome, im jealous of you being there and up close to them.

I wanted to add, the B-29 in pic 11 is the only flying one currently. Her name is Fifi. You can take a ride for $600-1500 depending on where you want to sit. More info here.

I wonder what was the purpose of guy in the "backseat" in pic #2 besides getting some fresh air

tail gunner....the plane is an Avenger. Was a slow torpedo plane, chances were if a Zero was on your tail while flying one of these, it was over anyway.....

Great Pictures. I didn't know there were so many P-51's flying. Pic #1 looks to me to be a B-25 (two engine bomber), not a B-24 (4 engine bomber). Hero BIll, I salute you.
